We had a great time on the Bury Your Dead tour yesterday – we both loved the details and enjoyed seeing how all the locations fit together around the city. We both especially liked the readings of parts of the novel at the church & Emile’s house, that’s a very nice touch.

Thanks again!

We LOVED this tour! It is based on Louise Penny’s book of the same name. Marie was great, and made Gamache (the main character) come alive. We had to remind ourselves often that he is just a fictional character. We saw many of the spots that were so beautifully described in the book, and at several spots she had us look around while she read from the book.

If you are a Louise Penny fan, this tour is an incredible way to immerse yourself in Quebec City. Our guide, Marie Legroulx, created this fascinating tour and included many interesting sites, pacing it perfectly. She shared with us history as well as current social trends, showed us where Louise Penny stayed while researching (where Gamache stayed in Emile’s home), and gave us great tips on places to eat in the process. Marie enriched the tour with selected passages from Bury Your Dead, bringing the book to life. We came from all over, but bonded over this shared love. I highly recommend this tour!

Bury Your Dead Tour with Marie Legroulx. Perfectly planned. Tour guide was smart, funny, informative, perceptive, spot-on perfect.

We took the “Bury Your Dead” walking tour based on the Louise Penny novel while staying in Quebec City. Marie was a fantastic tour guide – navigating us through the places mentioned in the novel and providing additional insights into the history of Quebec City. Our favorite stop on the tour was the Literary and Historical Society – what a great library!

Our guide, Marie Legroulx was fantastic! She told us the history in such an interesting and humorous manner that we all stayed attentive and interested for the entire 2 hours. What a beautiful city! Marie stayed after as long as we had questions about restaurants, etc. and it’s obvious that she has a great love for this city and its history. She brought history alive!

My wife, myself and two close friends booked this tour and we all came away feeling this was the best historic walking tour we had ever taken. Certainly, it helps if you’ve read the novel, but you will still learn a semester’s worth of history even if you haven’t read the book. The highlight of the tour though is Marie herself. She brings the history of her beautiful city in sharp focus. She’s a treasure to be savored as you walk (not slowly, but “briskly”) around and through Quebec City. Marie brought the images of “Bury Your Dead” to life, reading excerpts of the novel at appropriate locations along your route. Take this tour. It deserves way more than 5 stars.
